Osteoarthritis
According to Ayurveda, Osteoarthritis (Sandhivata) is caused when the activities of Vata increase inside the Sandhis or joints. Because Vata is dry in nature, it absorbs the fluidity from any part of the body. It is also destructive or catabolic in nature, which is why it causes destruction of the cartilages and reduction in the Synovial Fluid inside the joint capsule.

Watch what Ayurveda has to say about Osteoarthritis
Vata is the governing factor in the maintenance of equilibrium in the universe as well as in the body. As age advances, the influence of Vata Dosha progresses, resulting in the process of gradual degeneration of the body. Sandhigatavata (osteoarthritis) is one of the consequences of this process, which is common in the elderly people. This is one of the major causes of chronic disability, affecting the quality of life. Prevalence of osteoarthritis in India is more among menopausal women.
Osteoarthritis, or OA, is the most common type of arthritis, affecting up to 15 million Indians every year. OA is also called degenerative joint disease. It usually develops after age 45 but juvenile osteoarthritis is also a growing concern. The most common symptoms are pain and stiffness in the hips, hands, knees, lower back and neck joints mostly felt in the morning.
